This well-known “don’t copy him” quote from Yogi Berra was said to another baseball player who wanted to hit like a member of the Hall of Fame. We believe this quote is a humorous example of how some companies try to do benchmarking — they try to copy someone else, but there is no way they can be successful merely by copying.

Another quote, from Hamel and Prahalad, also captures the cautionary tone of Yogi:1
