Just Don’t Say It

This is a simple thing to do; I’m not even going to propose an activity for you to try. But simple doesn’t mean easy, and if you’re used to playing fast and loose with confidential information, this can be a tough habit to change. So I’ll offer you a self-talk mantra to use in support of keeping confidences. In all situations where you’re about to share something someone else has told you, ask yourself first, How would I feel if that person were hearing me say this? Asking that question mentally has stopped me in my verbal tracks many, many times, and I hope it does the same for you.
