Power

A dazzling summer day. More than a year since they first met. Flowers in full bloom lining the way to her door. He laughed as he remembered his first visit. The fear and confusion he’d brought with him. Nothing like the joy he felt at seeing her again.

How was Singapore? she asked.

Tough. Even worse than I expected. But it came out all right.

What happened?

I tried to show them I cared. My gift of love.

Were they looking for that?

No. Not at first. Lots of polite smiles. But you could feel the chill. They had a reception. I gave a little speech. I talked about caring. It flopped.
