- Why did you start it – what prompted you to get going?
The impetus for us came from the top – the regional director had a vision that he wanted to implement a system (and culture) of continuous improvement in the business and, alongside that, a bank of centralised processes.
- Before you started what did you think/what previous experience had you had?
I had no experience of Six Sigma and had only ever run projects from a pragmatic ‘what do we need to do to get this done’ perspective. Actually I was pleasantly surprised at how much sense the Lean Six Sigma methodology seemed to make!
- How did you get started?
I got in touch with the British Quality Foundation to start with. The EFQM Excellence Model was very helpful for giving an illustration of where our business was at the time, but it didn't help to actually address some of the issues. I had a mentor who recommended that I look into the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course, so that's how I started
- What were you trying to achieve?
We wanted to put in place a new ‘way of doing business’, which was less reactive and more process orientated – so that we could increase efficiency and make life easier!
