CHAPTER 7DEFINING TEAMS BY WHAT THEY LEARN

Common definitions of a team include these elements:

• A group of people who have a common goal

• A group of people whose work is interdependent

• A group of people who have joint responsibility and accountability for results

I add to this list:

• Team members either learn from one another or learn together to accomplish their goals

The point here is that unless there is learning taking place among team members, or unless the team members are together learning something new, there really isn’t a team but just a group of people who happen to work for the same manager.
