ServiceStack has two major versions available on NuGet. One is the 3.9 Version, which is a mature version with a large install base that targets .NET 3.5. The 3.9 Version has a BSD license, which is one of the most permissive licenses available. The other major version is 4.0, which targets .NET 4.0 and was released in early 2014. It is dual-licensed with an AGPL license and a commercial license with a free usage quota. Throughout this book, we will use the 3.9 Version as it does not have any licensing limitations and the effort to upgrade to the 4.0 Version should be relatively small for the features used in this book.
