12. Quiet and Forthcoming

Chapter 11 is all about the functional simplicity or complexity of an app, and this chapter is about the simplicity or complexity of its presentation. A versatile app can hide a lot of its functionality, cleverly organizing its navigation to appear deceptively simple; this is a quiet design. Or a focused app can put all its cards on the table right away, seeming powerful and full featured on its main screen, because there are no more screens to see; this is a forthcoming design. And, of course, any other combination of the two axes is possible, too. Depending on the experience you want to offer and the impression you want to give, all these approaches are available to you.
