Events are probably one of the most powerful technical features that was introduced in Dynamics AX 2012. In previous versions (and in Dynamics AX 2012), when a developer changes any standard code (code in a lower layer), a copy of the code (method) is created in the layer that the developers are using—thus making it possible to extend the application without ever deleting or overwriting any of the code that Microsoft has developed. However, if the application has been significantly extended on a project, then it becomes very hard to merge code with future versions (or service packs / fixes) of Dynamics AX.
