In this chapter, we are going to turn our attention to virtual storage and how this works when virtualized and particularly for use in VMware Workstation Pro.

The first part of this chapter is going to describe the overall concept of what a virtual hard disk is, what it is used for, the different types of provisioning methods, and the different formats for the different vendor solutions. We will, of course, focus on the VMware virtual disk configuration used in VMware Workstation Pro.
