Documentary photography can be defined, approached, and practiced in endless ways, but it works best when it unfolds in a way that’s unique to you. When I first began thinking about this book and the idea of sharing my personal thoughts, experiences, and techniques, I felt it critical to include insight and perspective from a diverse collection of documentary photographers I respect and admire. This sent me on a path to see if I could uncover and illuminate secrets from them—to get inside the mind of each photographer and broaden the reader’s view and approach to documentary photography.
