A growing segment of consumers is obsessed with food quality. Wanting healthy food and concerned about the use of pesticides, additives, and harvesting conditions, health-conscious consumers are flocking to food labels claiming the contents are organic.

Organic food sales have steadily increased since 2000, with huge spikes during the global pandemic when global sales of organic food jumped from U.S.$106 billion in 2019 to U.S.$120.65 billion in 2020.1

The rise in sales has attracted fraudsters looking to cash in on the growing trend. Food fraud globally costs consumers between U.S.$40 and U.S.$50 billion annually compared to U.S.$10 and U.S.$15 billion the decade before.2
