Preface

The central message of this book is that layoffs and firings have to be done right. Layoffs and firings do happen. It’s just the way business is done. But many companies mishandle terminations, resulting in lawsuits, mass employee exodus, theft, loss of productivity, brand destruction, and many other sicknesses.

The first chapter of the book addresses just that—why terminations should be executed correctly. The second and third chapters talk about firings and layoffs respectively, explaining how they should be handled. The fourth chapter gives you more food for thought by discussing some complex circumstances and provides some generic advice.
