To implement Lean, we need to change the systems. Fires eventually go away and managing
becomes easier. Blaming people interferes with exposing the inherent problems in the system. Also
remember, excess materials, wait times, and idle times are all signs of a problem in the system.
Managers and supervisors need to gain a solid understanding of Lean concepts, principles, and
tools so that when changes are made in Lean initiatives and staff pose questions and concerns, they
can address them with condence.
