Using Maxims to Drive Change
Each of InvestCo’s four business units made large investments in information technology to meet the specific needs of its business. There was no coordination of InvestCo’s investments, and the CIO had been unable to convince the business-unit heads to agree on a common approach to information technology infrastructure. Each of the four businesses had different and incompatible systems, and there was no firmwide perspective on infrastructure or shared services. InvestCo did not take a firmwide perspective on its technology investments—or on any other investments, for that matter. As a result, InvestCo was unable to quickly introduce the “Executive Choice” product to match its competitors.
