LAYING IN A PROFILE

Drawing a portrait in profile is less common than drawing one from a front or three-quarter view, and it requires a slightly different approach. Follow the stages below for a profile.

Stage 1 Try to discern a basic arc from the forehead to the chin, and put it down on paper. This is a guess that you will build on.

Stage 2 Extend your arm and measure to find the halfway point between the top and bottom. Mark it. Then guesstimate where the brow, bottom of the nose, lips, and so on fall on your arc. Now mark them.
