This arrangement represents standard practice
in the
mounting
of
rear hubs
on
commercial vehicles
and was
also used
in the
past
on
some heavier cars. With this
arrangement,
the
axle tubes entirely relieve
the half-
shafts
of
bending moments arising from vehicle weight,
traction, braking
and
cornering thrust forces. Hence,
the half-shafts
are
subjected only
to
torsional loading.

of the
fully floating axle
is
that
a
broken half-shaft
