7.3 EXHAUST SYSTEM
General requirements
An exhaust system is installed for the purpose of col-
lecting the burnt gases issuing from the engine cylinders
and unobtrusively discharging them outside the vehicle
(Figure 7.9). To accomplish this satisfactorily the
exhaust system must fulfil certain requirements. It must
be quiet in operation, absorb the least possible engine
power, minimize heat transference to the car interior
