Servo ring synchromesh
This type of synchronizing device was developed by the
German Porsche Company and in its original form first
appeared on their 1953 type 356 cars, which were based
on Volkswagen mechanical units. Since in the first
instance it was intended to occupy no more space than
that required for gears without synchromesh engage-
ment, the servo ring synchronizer has always enjoyed
the advantage of being a very compact design (Figure
15.15).
