sulfur lamp is quite high (see Table3.26) compared to other lamp technologies,
and lighting a building’s interior is possible by directing the emitted light of one
lamp to the desired spaces through optical tubes. The spectrum of such a lamp
is shown in Figure3.75. The emissions are the result of excitations not of sulfur
atoms but of sulfur molecules (S2), therefore the continuous spectrum covers the
entire visible region. The luminous efcacy of these lamps exceeds 100 lm/W and
the consuming power is on the order of kilowatts.
