The preceding chapter examines the Linux Professional Institute (LPI) certification tracks. LPI provides four levels of certification:
- Linux Essentials, the lower-level certification
- LPIC-1, an entry-level professional certification
- LPIC-2, a mid-range professional certification
- LPIC-3, the highest level professional certification
In contrast, Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA; www.comptia.org
) provides just a single Linux certification. The CompTIA Linux+ certification is intended to validate the competencies required of an early-career Linux system administrator in a vendor-neutral manner.
In this chapter, I provide an overview of the CompTIA Linux+ exam and then explore the topics in each of the exam domains.
Overview of the CompTIA Linux+ Exam
In the first iteration of the CompTIA Linux+ certification, CompTIA joined with LPI to create common LPIC-1 and Linux+ exams. The official name of the certification was CompTIA Linux+ Powered by LPI, certainly a mouthful to say, but a meaningful addition to a résumé.
