Windows contains no program authoring tools in the base product. Most Windows-only developments acquire the Microsoft Visual C/C++ product or a superset called Microsoft Visual Studio. Included in the Visual C/C++ product is a C/C++ compiler, a debugger, and all the requisite programming libraries to build Windows applications. Complete documentation and up-to-date libraries must be purchased separately in the Microsoft Developers Network (MSDN) product family. Since these products work only on Windows platforms, we will not focus on the Microsoft products. We will need to locate documentation for the necessary APIs to build and run applications.
