It is not enough to secure the integrity of each host computer; we must also secure the entire Elsolutions network.

The Elsolutions intranet—the part of its network inside the inner firewall—will use nonroutable IP addresses. A packet targeting one of these addresses cannot be routed into Elsolutions' network. We avoid consuming scarce addresses issued by the Internet Information Center (InterNIC), while gaining a measure of security. Desktop machines are to be dynamically issued nonroutable IP addresses through a Linux Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server.
