The 1990s

The 1990s began with an almighty recession, which created unique challenges for me. We were going into reverse, with a shrinking business forcing us to let go of many staff and sub-let office space. On top of this there were enormous tax bills arising from valuations, timings, misunderstandings and the transfer of the Hatton Street property from the recently set-up company name. But my abiding memory of the beginning of the 1990s was that it was dispirited by yet another recession, the unpopularity that I was experiencing and having good staff leave me as project opportunities were drying up.
