A FINAL PROJECT—STILL LIFE IN BOTH GRAPHITE AND INK
We’ve learned a lot about honing our ability to see subjects along with the techniques to help us document what we see with many mediums: graphite, charcoal, ink, and watercolor. One question that I’m often asked is “How do you decide which medium to use when creating realistic drawings?” For me, this has to do with my emotional response to the subject I wish to portray, but also with the unique characteristics of the subject. Is my subject full of linear surfaces, such as the pine needles on a bough? Then, the fine lines I can achieve with pen and ink would be a great fit.
