18.2 Reporting administrative tasks
Before changing the Reporter and Reports permissions, it is necessary to set up
User profiles, which is described in 14.2, “Registering users” on page 191 of this
book.

18.2.1 Reporter permissions
The Reporter permissions (see Table 18-3) allow users to add and delete reports
to and from the system and to run any report without having the specific Reports
permission to do so. These permissions, with the exception of Access Reporter
Module, are applicable only in the Administrator interface and are ignored in the
Student interface.

Tip: Change the number of records displayed per page by doing the following
steps (see Figure 18-3):
1. Log on to the Administrator Interface.
2. Select Preferences.
3. Change the Records per Page option, for example, to 20 records.

Accessing the reporter permissions
1. Log on to the administration interface.
2. Select Profiles from the menu (see Figure 18-4).

3. From the Profile screen, click Edit Permissions.
4. A list of profiles appears; select the user profile that you would like to edit.
5. The Modify window appears in the left frame.
6. Select Reporter from the drop-down list (see Figure 18-5 on page 253).
Modify Reports Changes certain attributes of a report (such as its name, description, or specific
course items).
Delete Reports Removes a report.
Run All Reports Runs any LearningSpace report without having specific permission (set in the
Reports module permissions) to do so.

Important: The Run all Reports permission overrides the individual Reports
Permissions set in the Reports Permissions.

7. The Reporter permissions are displayed, as described in “Reporter
permissions” on page 251.
8. Select the permission you would like to modify from the table and click
Modify.
9. Change the status of the selected permission in the status column and click
OK (see Figure 18-6).

18.2.2 Reports permissions
The Reports permissions (see Table 18-4 on page 254) allow users to generate
and display specific reports. If a user is denied the Reporter permission Run All
Reports, you can grant the Reports permission to run an individual report,
overriding that blanket prohibition. If you create a new report, you can assign
permission to run it (provided you have permission to edit permissions). These
permissions are applicable only in the Administrator interface and are ignored in
the Student interface. The Student interface independently allows its users to run

a single report that summarizes the user’s progress in all the courses in which he
or she is enrolled.
