Summary

In this chapter, we built up a component using other components. Along the way, we saw how to incorporate several important features that characterize an LWUIT component. These were:

  • Decoupling the look part of a component from its logic to permit visual customization
  • Handling events such as a keypress
  • Calling into a processing routine either directly or through the EDT when a predetermined incident takes place
  • Setting style attributes
  • Working out the preferred size

Although we put TimeTeller together from off-the-shelf components in the LWUIT library, that is not the only option. It is possible to create a component from scratch by rendering through a graphics object. The Developer's Guide that comes with the LWUIT bundle provides a good example ...
