System Preferences

The System Preferences utility provides a central location from which you can set up or customize a variety of Mac OS X features. In most cases, these features are not linked to a particular application and are not accessible by any other means. In some cases—especially with background applications and applications that don’t otherwise include their own menus—this window is also where you’re likely to find an application’s preferences settings. Preferences are organized by topic; each set of related preferences is found in what is called a preference pane.
