This chapter covered one of the most effective means available for securing your network access: using a virtual private network, or VPN. After explaining how VPNs work, I described some of the most common classes of VPNs and listed numerous providers of such services for people who don't already have access to one through their businesses. I described how to set up Mac OS X to use certain kinds of VPNs as well as basic configuration for several popular third-party VPN clients.
