If you have already connected to the Internet at home or at work, you may decide to skip this chapter. However, if you have a MacBook, you may need to familiarize yourself with your network settings so that you can connect to the Internet at hotspots and hotels.

Connecting to the Internet is probably one of the first things you want to do with a new Mac. Setting up your Internet connection can be as easy as letting Mac OS X do it for you when you start up for the first time. Or it can be as difficult as calling the customer support line for your cable or telephone company. It depends on your exact situation.
