20. Creating with GarageBand

Who Should Read This Chapter:

If you want to use your Mac for any sort of audio recording, whether music or speech, you should learn the ins and outs of GarageBand.

Part of the iLife suite is GarageBand, an audio-editing and music creation tool that can be used for a variety of tasks. Let’s look at how to use GarageBand for some of them.

Creating Music

The most basic use for GarageBand is to use the built-in music loops to make a piece of music. You’ll do this by overlaying different loops: drums, bass, guitar, and so on.

When you first launch GarageBand, you will be given some choices as to how to start, as shown in Figure 20.1.
