Chapter 2. Making a Site Connection
Although it is possible to edit pages with Macromedia Contribute 3 that are not on a Web server (called offline editing), you may be using Contribute to create and edit pages over an Internet or local area network (LAN) connection to a Web server. The server could be the machine running your live Web site, sometimes called the production server, or it could be a test server, also known as a staging server. A staging server is usually used for editing and review of a site’s pages where several people must approve the design and content before the site or page goes live on the Internet.
