Abstract

Fielding diagnostics (scientific instruments) on experimental fusion research devices has always been a key element in developing fusion as an energy source. The role of these diagnostics has first focused on the physical understanding of the mechanisms and dynamics involved in complex plasma media. They also play a key role in the validation of physics models, which are needed for developing a predictive capability for future fusion devices including a power plant.
