3: Image processing methods to enhance disease information in MRI slices

Abstract

The collected images from MRI scanning are normally available in 3D form and, to reduce the computation complexity, 3D to 2D conversion is initially implemented. The 2D MRI slices are then treated using a number of image preprocessing procedures to enhance the visibility of the disease information to be examined using the chosen image processing method. The commonly adopted methods include filtering, threshold filtering, contrast enhancement, edge detection, pixel level fusion, and thresholding.
