3.4 Production implementation
Now that the pre-implementation steps are complete, the source volume data set
catalogs have been identified as input to the COPY step, and the syntax has
been checked with simulation runs of the COPY and RENAME steps, the actual
implementation can begin.
Table 3-2 provides a brief description of the production implementation steps to
clone an online DB2 subsystem using MS/VCR.
Table 3-2 Production implementation steps
Step Source volumes Target volumes
1 Run DB2 commands:
SET LOG LOGLOAD(0)
SET LOG SUSPEND
To force any pending database
writes to disk, suspend update
activity and flush the log buffers
to disk on the source DB2
subsystem.
2 Run MS/VCR COPY
3 Run DB2 command:
SET LOG RESUME
To resume access to the source
DB2 subsystem
4 Run MS/VCR RENAME

5 Run MS/VCR DB2UPDATE to
update the DB2 directory and
BSDSs. The remaining DB2
catalog changes are done via the
MS/VCR DB2 SQL commands. If
DB2 data sharing is involved, run
the DB2UPDT2 JCL member for
each additional DB2 member.
6 Start the target DB2 subsystem
in maintenance mode and with a
special zparm
7 Run MS/VCR DB2FIX to resolve
restricted page spaces in the
DB2 Directory (DSNDB01) and
DB2 Catalog (DSNDB06).
8 Run MS/VCR DB2SQL to update
the DB2 catalog
9 Run MS/VCR DB2FIX to resolve
restricted application page
spaces
10 Stop the target DB2 subsystem
from running in maintenance
mode.
11 Start the target DB2 subsystem
with its normal parameter,
DSNZPARa
12 Begin access to data sets on the
target volumes.
13 (optional) Optional step in preparation for
the next day's clone.
Run MS/VCR BCSCLEAN if a
populated catalog was used.
DELETE / DEFINE if using an
empty target catalog or use
BCSCLEAN.
