“I have an excellent idea for a new business or product.”
It’s a statement I hear almost daily from leaders I coach, and it isn’t necessarily a good thing.
Let me explain. I coach leaders with several years of experience in very senior roles. Shiny objects syndrome (S.O.S.) increases as you go up the corporate ladder. When someone with many years of experience comes to me, excited about a new product line or service, I can’t help but approach the conversation a little guardedly, because it tells me they might have the S.O.S. – shiny objects syndrome – and it affects all leaders to some degree, even the most disciplined ones.
