Chapter 1. Trigonometry and Analytic Geometry
If you ask someone what trigonometry is, they will probably mutter something about angles, sides, and hypotenuses, and perhaps some strange acronyms they memorized long ago. This is pretty ignominious for a discipline that enabled navigation across oceans, and, eventually, across interplanetary space. Hopefully, by the time we are through this book, you will be able to give a more compelling definition. Let’s start our book by getting a little better idea of what trigonometry and analytic geometry actually are, and talking about why we have combined them in this book. Then we will walk through what to expect as you travel with us, and what we assume you already know.
