We’ve discussed the aesthetic and technical foundations of media making. We’ve considered the power of storytelling and the ethical implications of work that is produced. We’ve looked at the different configurations of people and equipment with which you can make media. This chapter is about the process of getting out into the world and doing it. As discussed in Chapter 1, the making of a film (this term used in its broadest sense that includes everything from a short web video to a theatrically released motion picture) is often broken down into development, production, and distribution.
