Why teams fail

First let's answer the question: when is a team considered a failure? A team is considered failure when:

  • It fails to deliver on promises.
  • Path to delivery is difficult. Problems keep showing up all the time and no problem is easy to solve.
  • It takes too much energy for people to work with this team.
  • High turnover rate. Loses people all the time.
  • Cost of delivery is high.
  • Is unable to shake the perception of failure. Even though the team may do reasonably well, management and peers continue to see it as a failure due to past impressions.
