Don't compete with your own people

Every manager should remember that he/she is the leader of the team. A manager gets to contribute to everything that the team accomplishes and hence is always eligible to take credit for the same. So technically, a manager should never feel threatened by his team.

However, most times the people in the team will be more technically accomplished. As the manager spends less and less time on the technical stuff and more and more on all the other aspects, the knowledge level on technical things will certainly drop over time. Rather, the technical knowledge gets broad and less deep.
