Most managers are handed a strategy and instructed to implement it. In some companies they may be invited to contribute to the strategic plan, but their ideas will then be bundled up into a scheme dreamed up in the corporate suite, by youthful ‘strategic planners’ who imagine a company’s future with little regard for how it might come to pass.
