Project management is old, but its study is young. It emerged as a distinct discipline over the last few decades, even though great projects have been carried out throughout history. Some of these historic projects still stand: pyramids in Africa and the Americas, the Great Wall of China, the palaces and places of worship throughout Asia and Europe, and the lesser-known Ngunnhu dry-stone fish traps in Australia (over 3,000 years old and still in use).
