Introduction to media law
10.1 Summary
The primary objective of this chapter is to introduce some of the basic facts of the English legal system you may encounter. It also sets out to highlight one or two of the major areas of law that lie outside what is generically referred to as ‘media law’, but are of fundamental importance in the commercial world.

There is no getting away from the fact that the law will touch every part of a media manager’s work, and that some knowledge of it is therefore essential. Basic managerial tasks will be governed by contract law, employment law, health and safety law, and the law of tort.
