Introduction

When I first saw a demonstration of remotely managing iOS devices, I couldn’t wait to see what tools Apple had in store. I had been using the iPhone Configuration Utility (iPCU) to configure and distribute configuration profiles to iOS devices, but since iPCU requires physical access to the devices, it isn’t much help after iOS devices are released into the wild. Unfortunately, when Apple announced the Mobile Device Management (MDM) framework, they didn’t release any tools to take advantage of MDM. Fortunately, a good number of third-party developers quickly announced and released their MDM solutions.
