Building KM into a portfolio
Overview
In effective portfolio-wide KM, knowledge is managed strategically at the portfolio level and support is provided for KM in individual projects or programmes within the portfolio. Knowledge flows effectively and efficiently within and between projects and programmes, and to and from business as usual. KM practices are standardised across the whole portfolio by embedding, extending and supporting the practices described in Chapter 5 for building KM into each project. KM therefore contributes to the successful delivery of the portfolio, the organisation’s strategic objectives and targets, and the organisation’s strategic knowledge needs (Figure 6.1).
