SUMMARY: AVOIDING ORGANIZATIONAL INDIGESTION

Perhaps this heading seems a little odd for a summary and concluding comments. However, it describes the manner in which Product Management can contribute to the organization’s success—and some stumbling blocks to that success.

I talk about “organizational indigestion” when a great product idea doesn’t get to see the light of day, either because there aren’t enough resources or an executive thinks he or she has a monopoly on creativity. Or the executives put up some organizational obstacles. Organizational indigestion happens when systemic obstacles stand in the way of success. This can be particularly problematic (especially if there really is a market for the product!) if a product’s success is thwarted ...
