Abstract

Among the many management skills, collection development skills should rank as the most important a solo librarian should possess; a library is only as good as its collection of research materials, and solo librarians do not have the luxury of having other librarians to develop these for them. And in a way, from my experience, collection development (next to my favorite part of librarianship, reference) is the most fulfilling and enjoyable part of solo work.
