THE previous chapter described building diversity competence of individuals. Though important, alone that is insufficient. For most organizations, moving toward better management of DEI requires significant alterations in structure and process. We can think of development of organizational diversity competency as following the steps of awareness, understanding, and action (Cox & Beale, 1997). The shaded box applies this view to a contemporary issue.
