Sources and Methodology

AN EARLY VERSION of this book sought to footnote every page. The lawyer in me craves citations. In this published version, however, I adopted a different approach. I have referenced important items along the way. The basis of the Lean Risk Management methodology, however, are Enterprise Risk Management—Integrated Framework and ISO 31000.

In developing the Lean Risk Management approach, I also have relied on nearly 30 years of helping nonprofits. In addition, I have relied on Risk Alternatives' proprietary survey data from hundreds of nonprofits around the United States.

In the following sections I provide materials on risk management, Lean management, systems thinking, and design thinking, as well as a bibliography of all materials cited in this book.
