Finishing and Slitting
The slitting process is inherent to essentially all web-handling industries. This chapter provides insight into the material–machinery interactions that affect the configuration of an appropriate slitting process. It reviews the information needed to direct the preparation of slit rolls ready for use by customers, including web width, inside diameter of the core, outside diameter of the finished roll, and rewind. The relevance of all of this information to product use is discussed. Additional equations about estimating the length and the weight of material on a roll, given information about the composition of the flexible packaging structure, are provided.
