Introduction
As part of the research for this book 11 towns have been visited, where discussions were held with key actors (e.g. town clerk, town manager, planners, local organisations etc.) and the relevant policy material has been reviewed. The towns were selected as examples of the five functional roles of towns identified in Chapter 2, as well as attempting to cover a range of locations and contexts; the towns are profiled in Chapter 3. This chapter considers these case study towns in terms of: the strategies adopted to improve the towns; the developments occurring within the towns; and their experiences with the MTI.
